Petra Schaffer (1961) wields her camera as if the reality of the image is not necessarily a given. The photographs show a factual representation of her close observation, even though they suggest pose and artificiality. She captures reality with images that seem to deny the fleetingness of the moment and are motionless in their own stylised beauty.

In 1983, Petra Schaffer graduated from the prestigious München Academy for Photography. In the same year, she received the first prize for photography, which was presented by the Ministry of Culture in Bavaria. As well as a photographer, Petra Schaffer is a TV director for the German television station ZDF, with a focus on the areas of culture, news and entertainment. Until recently, her photography work could mainly be seen in Switzerland and Germany, in the Goethe Institut in Frankfurt, for example.
